Google Inks New Deal With Seth

Last March, we told you about a new internet-based show which Seth MacFarlane was planning. Google has now releaved the name of the show ("Seth MacFarlane's Cavalcade Of Cartoon Comedy"), along with announcing that they will be distributing the show across the net in a new deal with MacFarlane himself.

Starting in September, Google plans to distribute "Cavalcade" video clips through AdSense, placing the videos on select sites in its publisher network. As the Times describes it, Google will try integrating MacFarlane's cartoon with several video ad formats, including pre-roll ads and banners.

The only question on our lips is: "Will the show succeed?". Of course it will. Especially when it has a multi-billion dollar corporation like Google behind it.

Details on the show itself are slim to none at the minute, but from the title, we can guess the show will be some sort of random cartoon clip show. We may be right, or we may be completely wrong.

Roll on September 2008!

Family Guy Shortlisted For Emmy Nom

Family Guy has been listed as one of the top ten shows expected to receive nominations for the 2008 Emmy Awards in the comedy category. This official release has been made to put an end to the rumours which were floating around the internet about this time last year for that year's Emmy awards.

These shows will go on to two Blue Ribbon Panel screenings to be conducted throughout this weekend (June 28-29). The results of each panel will represent fifty percent of the vote and will be averaged together to determine the five nominees in each category. If you're interested, you can read about this process here for a more in-depth explanation on how this process works.

Along with Family Guy, the following shows have also been shortlisted: "Curb Your Enthusiasm", "The Office", "Two and a Half Men", "Ugly Betty" and "Weeds". You can find out all ten of the shortlisted comedies by visiting this link.

Remember; just five of these highly popular comedies can be nominated, so Family Guy will really have a tough time even making it through what some would call "the second round" of the annual Emmy award competition.

White Castle Spawn New Family Guy Ad Campaign

Above is an image from the Coca-Cola television commercial starring a huge, inflatable Stewie Griffin. This was the second ever Family Guy marketing campaign, following the Subway advertisement commercial with Peter Griffin.

This week, the White Castle restaurant chain decided to jump on the bandwagon. The chain is introducing a campaign that features members of the animated cast of “Family Guy” like Stewie and Brian. There will be cups bearing likenesses of the characters, posters in stores and radio commercials by JWT, part of the WPP Group.

“Our brand is quirky,” Ms. Bartley said, “not a brand like Burger King or McDonald’s.” That made the agreement to use the “Family Guy” cast for the campaign “a good fit,” she added.

Expect to be drinking out of Family Guy cups at your local White Castle restaurant in the coming months.

Freakin' Sweet! 2 New Pages

What's more freakin' sweet than even more Family Guy related crap to look at? We're hearing you loud and clear, and in response, we have added 2 new pages to the website!

The first page is located under the Information tab. It concerns the short-lived Family Guy comic book series from Devils Due Publishing, of which just 3 volumes were released. This page, as you'd expect, contains all the information surrounding the series, along with some images of the comics themselves to boot!

The 2nd page, also located under the same tab, chronicles the exact plan of the Griffin family household. Complete with actual blueprints, along with descriptions and images of each room, this guide is sure to be of help to anyone who ever winds up in 31 Spooner St. some day. Yes, it could very well happen.

Some of you may have noticed that the navigational tabs have been changed a little. While the Interact tab is now no longer featured, a new Extras tab has replaced it. This new section to the website will not only feature the interactivity previously seen in the Interact tab, but it will also feature some extra stuff (obviously) which you wouldn't usually see on a Family Guy website, the first of which is a very cool free webhosting plan for all the budding but broke webmasters out there. If you're looking into starting your very own website, make sure to check it out.

That's it for now.

The Griffins Versus NBA Players

Each Tuesday, ESPN carries out an experiment they like to call "The Sporting Equivalency", in which they liken certain pop culture figures to professional athletes. This Tuesday, they felt like playing with the format a bit, and decided to liken certain characters from Family Guy, the show they call "one of the best television shows on television" to basketball stars such as Kobe Bryant, Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett.

While they chose characters such as Peter, Stewie, Lois and Cleveland for the article, the following points are what we believe to be the highlights of this week's comparisons:

"Stewie's entire life mission is to dominate the world. So is Kobe's; each has been thwarted on several occasions. Stewie's catchphrase is "Victory is mine." When Kobe does the "There's no way in the world you can guard me" head bob before driving on someone, isn't that basically what he's saying?"

"Pau Gasaol's surprising bursts of effectiveness are similar to how Chris, generally depicted as a low-IQ, no-common-sense buffoon, will show profound artistic talent or be able to lecture his parents on the ills of marijuana. You don't expect dominance of a scene from either Pau (Kobe's always around) or Chris (Stewie, Brian and Peter can all upstage him) but when it happens, it's good for everyone."

Source: ESPN

TV Insider: Seth MacFarlane

The following appeared in today's TV Insider:

Name: Seth MacFarlane

Role: Writer, creator, executive producer and voice actor on Fox’s “The Family Guy” (at 9 p.m. on WFXT, Ch. 25).

Hometown: Kent, Conn.

Age: 34

Where you’ve seen him before: The Rhode Island School of Design graduate is also co-creator, executive producer, voice actor, and writer on the Fox animated series “American Dad.” He also has appeared on “The War at Home,” “Gilmore Girls,” “Help Me Help You” and “Star Trek: Enterprise.”

Fun fact: He voices Peter, Stewie and Brian Griffin on “Family Guy.”

On the show’s humor: “The thing that I try to do with ‘Family Guy’ is to have this balance between the classic and the edgy. We do a lot of poop jokes, but at the same time, we use a 45-piece orchestra every week with a full string section. And, you know, we don’t try to shock for shock’s sake. If something is just shocking and not funny, then we’ll cut it out. And we have these table reads every week, which we do for each episode, in which we have a very good cross-section of artists and people from the outside and writers, and the studio network is there. And no one is shy about gasping in horror if we have crossed the line, and so it’s a very good barometer.”

On the show’s cutaway scenes: “We see them as, in a weird way, these animated versions of one-frame ‘Far Side’ cartoons that are something you can only do really, I think, effectively in the animation medium. And they’re just laughs for laughs’ sake. You don’t have to know what’s going on with the plot. You don’t have to know what’s going on with character drive. It’s just pure comedy, we hope.”

Where you’ll see him in five years: Writing, directing and voicing a “Family Guy” movie.

While it was a short interview, they did ask her about her job as a voice actor on Family Guy, along with a question concerning any other animated shows she enjoys. Mila Replied:

"For Family Guy, I come to work one day out of the month. I come in my pajamas, I hang out and play Ping-Pong, I record a couple pages of stuff, and I leave. I hope that job never ends. It's like money from the sky. People are like, 'Oh, can I come visit you at Family Guy?' They come and are like, 'That's it? This is all you do?'"

Read the quick interview in Complex Magazine here.

Ipod Wallpapers and More

Today sees the launching of a new page on the website, along with two brand new features.

The new page can be found in the gallery section of the website, and is home to some original Apple Ipod© Touch and IPhone wallpapers. Just like the PSP wallpapers page, this section exists for the minority who are lucky enough to actually own such technology.

Today also sees the launching of a search function to the website, found in the main header. This simple button replaces the "Latest News" module seen there previously, as we felt the search function would be a lot more useful to you. With this, you can search every part of Freakin' Sweet News by entering your desired keywords and clicking the magnifying glass.

Today (well, last night, really) saw the launch of a new module to your right: the Features tab. This tab will feature the newest content to be added to our website, acting as an at-a-glance view of what's new around Freakin' Sweet News. Think of it as an news section for the website rather than Family Guy itself.

That's it for now. Stay tuned for more!

More information on "The Cleveland Show" has now been released.

According to the information, in the opening episode, Cleveland will think he is on his way to California to pursue his lifelong dream of becoming a minor league baseball scout only to end up in his Virginia hometown instead.

There he will meet Donna, his highschool sweetheart. She has a 16-year-old daughter, Roberta, who runs in the fast lane, and a 5-year-old son named Rollo, who’s streetwise and savvy to the ways of the world. Think of him as a more laid back, less evil version of Stewie.

His neighbours consist of a high class British family known as the Pennyapples, along with a group of rednecks across the street, the father of which shows blatant discomfort around black people, namely Cleveland and his new family.

Nothing has been mentioned on the family of bears seen in the first official promotional image for the show. Seth MacFarlane will be voicing Barrington Pennyapple, the father of the British Pennyapple family.

More information will be posted as it is released. The layouts section has now undergone an overhaul.

"Family Guy" Goes For Gold At Emmys

Horrified over having lost the Emmy for Best Animated Comedy three times (twice to "The Simpsons," once to "South Park") and not being nominated at all last year, "Family Guy" has decided to switch to the category for Best Comedy Series at this year's Emmy Awards, as "The Simpsons" did way back in the early 1990s.

After winning the Best Animated Comedy award in 1990 and 1991, "Simpsons" Executive Producer James L. Brooks said that the cartoon's creative team resented the academy's "get to the back of the bus" attitude. "The Simpsons" should be able to compete with the "grown-up" shows, he added. "Simpsons" creator Matt Groening admitted, "It's just not that much of a thrill beating 'Garfield' every year."

"The Simpsons" failed to win this award, despite winning the Best Animated Comedy three times beforehand. Yet "Family Guy" has never won either award. The Best Comedy Series award is an extremely tough category, and many have said that "Family Guy" has succeeded in "shooting itself in the foot" for this year's awards. The award ceremony will take place on September 21st 2008.

Three PSP wallpapers have been added.
