Family Guy, American Dad and The Cleveland Show have all been nominated for a 2010 Teen Choice Award in the Animated Show category.

The three shows are running along side South Park and Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

The event will air on the 9th of August at 8/7c on Fox.

Fox have released a fun promotion for the new episodes of Family Guy, American Dad, The Cleveland Show and The Simpsons airing next Sunday, which happens to be Mother’s Day in many parts of the world, including the US.

They’ve released new promotional images, along with quotes from characters of each of the shows, telling us what they’ll be giving their mother on the day.

Family Guy (9:00-9:30pm)
Stewie Griffin: “I already gave her a present. It’s called a flabby stomach and permanent stretch marks.”
Meg Griffin: “For Mother’s Day, I plan on giving Mom the perfect gift: I’m gonna run away.”
Chris Griffin: “Mom didn’t get me anything last Mother’s Day, so I’m not gonna get her anything this year.”

American Dad (9:30-10:00pm)
Hayley Smith: “What I’d like to give this Mother’s Day is equal rights for women – all over the world. But unfortunately that’s not the world we live in. So instead, I’ll just get my Mom a teddy bear holding a heart. Yeah, that’ll help out.”
Steve Smith: “I’d like to get her an Internet that doesn’t have parental blocks or require a passcode. I think she’d like that.”

The Cleveland Show (8:30-9:00pm)
Rallo Tubbs: “I’m saving up to buy my mom a new husband for Mother’s Day. But husbands who aren’t fat and dumb are expensive.”
Roberta Tubbs: “This year for Mother’s Day I’m buying a pair of smokin’ hot leather leggings – for myself. Because there’s nothing an aging mother enjoys more than seeing her hot young daughter remind her of how good she once looked!”
Cleveland Brown Jr.: “Every year for Mother’s Day, I plant a tree in Israel.”

Tonight sees Family Guy celebrating it’s milestone 150th episode with an hour-long special; “Brian and Stewie” will air at 9:00pm, in which Brian and Stewie get locked in a bank vault where they are forced to deal with each other on a whole new level. Afterwards, there’ll be a musical special, featuring some fan favorites and a never-before-seen musical number, in support of Fox’s Glee-themed week, “Fox Rocks”.

The episode itself will run 6 minutes longer than a regular episode. Because of this hour-long celebration, American Dad is bumped from the schedule tonight. The Cleveland Show will still air a new episode beforehand at 8:30pm.

Fox have released a huge collection of promotional images for Sunday May 2nd’s hour long Family Guy feature, which includes the 150th episode and a half hour musical special. Also included are images from the musical numbers which will feature in the episode.

From the images, we know some of the musical numbers which will feature:

“You’ve Got A Lot to See” – Brian Wallows and Peter’s Swallows (season 3)
“My Drunken Irish Dad” – Peter’s Two Dads (season 5)

Fox have released the first promotional image for Sunday May 2nd’s “Brian and Stewie”, which is being advertised as the 150th episode of Family Guy.

The episode will be the next episode to air after this Sunday’s “April in Quahog” (which means a 3 week break), and will be followed by 3 more episodes in the consecutive weeks (May 9th, 16th and 23rd) to finish the 8th season.

“Brian and Stewie” will be followed by a half-hour musical special as part of Fox Rocks, a week dedicated to musicals.

Today, we turn two years old. Read on for some interesting facts on how far we’ve come since we launched on this day in 2008.

In early January of 2008, while scouring the web for Family Guy news, I, Brian, noticed that a dedicated, up to date source for Family Guy was nigh on impossible to come by. I grew frustrated, and contemplated doing something proactive about it. The problem was that I had next to no clue where to begin. A handful of visually disturbing, tacky freeweb sites and a couple of hundred tutorials later, I finally gathered the resources together to purchase a host; as for a name for the website, Freakin’ Sweet News wasn’t exactly my first choice. Possible names included “The Quahog Informant” (which later became the name of our now defunct bi-weekly newsletter), simply “Freakin’ Sweet” (before I discovered that domain name was already purchased), among other far less creative titles.

For months, what felt like nobody even cared to visit. But suddenly, after the first 6 months, comments began getting posted, and our viewership began to grow. On our first birthday, we had reached nearly 250,000 visits; today, we stand at over 650,000. Our daily visit count currently stands at more than 1,000. We’ve become well known for our to-the-minute updates on happenings in Family Guy, and, more recently, a reliable source for both American Dad and The Cleveland Show too.

We’ve been fortunate enough to make contact with cast and crew of the show; mainly, producer Kara Vallow has kindly given us exclusive information on numerous occasions, and last November, we interviewed Alex Borstein, who plays Lois Griffin, Tricia Takanawa and other various characters on the show.

No, I’m not trying to boast; I’m attempting to show all that the site has achieved, none of which could have been achieved without you, the visitor. I’d like to thank to sincerely for making us your number one Family Guy source. I’d also like to thank Buckimion, sgtcook and Alexina, all of whom also blog for the website. Words not enough? Today, we’re also launching a long overdue revamp to what had become a very neglected part of the site: the episode guide (It’s more exciting than it sounds, promise!)

Our new episode guide, which has been a total of three long months in progress, is something I’ve wanted to address for a long time. Today, it’s more extensive than ever. After you choose a season, you’ll be taken to an index page where you’ll see a listing of every episode which aired that season, including a cut-down version of each episode’s plot and trivia on that season as a whole. Clicking on a specific episode takes you to a more extensive listing on that episode, which includes it’s initial ratings, air date and other vital information, information on guest stars, a more extensive plot description, quotes, references, trivia and more.

You may notice that much of these fields have yet to be filled in; that’s where you come in. We’re inviting you to contribute your favorite quotes, trivia and references from each episode; adding this level of interactivity not only makes things easier for us, but allows for your input.

February 15 sees Alex Borstein celebrate her 37th birthday.

Family Guy fans will be familiar with Alex as the voice of Lois Griffin, Tricia Takanawa, Loretta Brown and Babs Pewtershmidt amongst others, but she is also an accomplished screen actress. Having brought the character Ms Swan to life as a regular cast member on MadTV, Alex boasts an impressive resume, appearing in dozens of films including Good Night And Good Luck, The Lookout and Coyote Ugly, as well as television series’ such as Gilmore Girls, Friends and Frasier.

A big happy birthday goes out to Alex on behalf of everyone here at Freakin’ Sweet News.

Seth Green’s official website is reporting that today he turns 36. Fans of Family Guy will know him as the voice of Chris Griffin, but Seth is also a talented screen actor, having appeared in dozens of films, had a recurring role on popular tv series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and even created his own sketch show, Robot Chicken, which begain in early 2005 and is still going strong today on [Adult Swim]. This year, the show was picked up for a further 2 seasons.

Fox have just launched a new Valentine’s-themed website, no doubt to promote new episodes of Family Guy, American Dad, The Cleveland Show and The Simpsons airing on Valentine’s Day, Sunday, February 14th.

The website, located here, allows you to send humorous e-cards to loved ones for the special occassion. the eCards include such quotes as: “We all die alone. Happy Valentine’s”, “Marriage is like an old book. It goes on forever and smells kinda funny” and “Valentine’s Day: the VD we can all celebrate”.

10: Volume 7/Season 8 Gets DVD release

Last year saw the DVD release of yet another season of Family Guy. Alright, so once again, it wasn’t exactly a season, but its release was still as awaited and talked about as ever.

9: Season 8 premieres with “Road to the Multiverse”

September 27th saw the premiere of the 8th season with “Road to the Multiverse”, which saw Stewie and Brian traverse from universe to universe using Stewie’s new teleporting device. The episode received very high reviews amongst fans, and is still held in high regard as the best episode of season 8.

8: Family Guy at Comic Con 2009

At 2009′s annual Comic Con International in July, besides revealing all-new information about what we could expect from the show’s eighth season, which began airing in September, a 10-minute preview clip from “Something, Something, Something Dark Side” stole the show.

7: “Something, Something, Something Dark Side” is released on DVD and Blu-ray

2 years after the release of the first Family Guy take on the classic Star Wars science fiction movies, entitled “Blue Harvest”, December 2009 saw the exclusive release of the second spoof on DVD and Blu-ray. While many fans believed this second parody wasn’t as fresh as the first, we thought it was an exciting, very enjoyable episode, and gave it 7 out of 10 in our review.

6: Seth MacFarlane makes plans for a Family Guy feature movie

While attending a special table reading commemorating the 100th episode of American Dad, Seth MacFarlane, (Family Guy‘s creator, if you’ve been living under a rock) spoke about plans being made for a full-length feature film: “Fox wants it. We know what we want to do with it. It’s just a question of finding the time,” he said.

5: Family Guy to go HD in 2010

In a month largely filled with excitement in the lead up to the season 8 premiere, August 2009 saw the announcement, directly from producer Kara Vallow, that Family Guy would finally be making the transition to High Definition with it’s 9th season, set to premiere in September 2010.

4: Family Guy abortion-themed episode doesn’t make it to air

It was also announced at July’s Comic Con that an abortion-themed episode involving Lois would be exclusively heading to DVD after Fox banned the episode from getting a regular TV airing.

3: “Seth and Alex’s Almost Live Comedy Show”

As part of an “All Seth” night on Fox on November 8th, “Seth and Alex’s Almost Live Comedy Show” aired, which, as the title suggests, was a live-action variety show featuring Seth MacFarlane, Alex Borstein and guests. Probably the highlight of the special was the hilarious appearance of deaf actress Marlee Matlin.

2: The US premiere of The Cleveland Show

Whether you think Family Guy warrants its very own spin-off or not, it can’t be argued that, initially at least, this new series centered around Cleveland Brown’s new life in Stoolbend, Virginia, has been a success. The show itself seems to get very mixed reviews amongst fans, but the show’s ratings speak for themselves.

1: Family Guy is nominated for Best Comedy Emmy

In what became a media frenzy, Family Guy was successfully nominated for the Best Comedy award at the Emmy Awards 2009, becoming the second ever animated series to achieve such a feat since The Flintstones. While it didn’t win the award, losing out to 30 Rock, it still broke new ground for future nominees for the coveted award.

And there you have it: the top 10 moments in the world of Family Guy in 2009. What will 2010 bring? Well, for one thing, it will mean all-new episodes returning this Sunday, January 3rd. As mentioned above, this year (September, to be more specific) will finally see the show transition to the High Definition format. We should see some new DVD releases, one hopefully containing “Partial Terms of Endearment”, the much spoken about abortion-themed episode.

Who knows what else lays on the horizon? Meg finally getting treated right? Stewie finally choosing between boys or girls? Another spin-off? Really, anything’s possible. For such an unpredictable future, at least you can take some comfort in the fact that Freakin’ Sweet News will be along for the ride. Happy 2010!
