Fox has announced plans to unleash the thrid and final instalment of Family Guy’s Star Wars parodies to DVD and Blu-Ray on December 21st.

In this spectacular and offensively uproarious final chapter, Luke Skywalker (Chris) and Princess Leia (Lois) must travel to Tatooine to free Han Solo (Peter) by infiltrating the wretched stronghold of Jabba the Hutt (Joe), the galaxy’s most loathsome and dreadful gangster. Once reunited, the Rebels team up with a tribe of Ewoks to combat the Imperial forces on the forest moon of Endor. Meanwhile the Emperor (Carter Pewterschmidt) and Darth Vader (Stewie) conspire to turn Luke to the dark side, and young Skywalker is determined to rekindle the spirit of the Jedi within his father. The Galactic Civil War has never been more outrageous, as the Rebel forces gather to attack the seemingly defenseless and incomplete second Death Star in the battle that will determine the fate of the galaxy.

Adding to the fun, “Family Guy: It’s A Trap!” is loaded with hysterical cameo voice spots – including Patrick Stewart and Michael Dorn reprising their roles from “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” Adam West (“Batman”), Carrie Fisher (Star Wars Trilogy) and conservative talk radio juggernaut Rush Limbaugh as the voice of the large carnivorous reptomammal, the Rancor.

“It’s A Trap” will retail for approximately $23 for DVD, $30 for Blu-Ray and will also be available in a three pack along side predecessors “Blue Harvest” and “Something Something Something Dark Side”.

The Cleveland Show – The Complete 1st Season is due for release on the 28th of September, the same day as Family Guy’s “Partial Terms Of Endearment” DVD is launched.

You may recall a few weeks back we told you about a “Barely Legal” DVD that was due for release some time in September. Well now, thanks to the folks at TVShowsOnDVD.com, we are able to bring you the cover art as well as information on the 2-disc DVD set which has since undergone a title change.

Says TVShowsOnDVD.com:

Family Guy – Partial Terms of Endearment will cost $14.98 SRP in the United States, and CA$16.98 SRP in Canada. The main disc includes the banned-from-TV episode, plus Deleted Scenes and a Commentary Track. In addition they will also include “The Seth and Alex Almost-Live Comedy Show” on this disc, complete with some Deleted Scenes from that production as well. There will also be a “Family Guy Live and Uncensored” Table Read, plus an Animatic for the main “Partial Terms of Endearment” episode.

There is also said to be a “Clips to Go” feature which features a 27-track karaoke session.

“Partial Terms Of Endearment” is due to be released on the 28th of September.

According to Sanity, Season 1 of The Cleveland Show will be released in Australia on the 3rd of November this year.

Retail price is currently set at $49.99 (though one would expect retailers such as Kmart, Big W or JB-HiFi to have it available at a smaller cost) and unlike both Family Guy and American Dad, The Cleveland Show will be sold in full season box sets.

Some of you may remember Seth MacFarlane’s appearance in the 2009 BBC Proms, taking part in “A Celebration of Classic MGM Film Musicals”. Now 2 Entertain Video are releasing it on DVD. It will be available to buy in the UK from July 12th at £19.99.

The Royal Albert Hall performance also featured Curtis Stigers, Kim Criswell, Sarah Fox and Sir Thomas Allen. The music, including hits from
The Wizard of Oz, Meet Me in St Louis, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, High Society, Gigi and Singin’ in the Rain, were performed by John Wilson’s hand picked orchestra, after he had to personally re-write some of the songs.

The episodes
“FOX-y Lady” starts off so LOADED with added scenes that I thought it was setting the tone for the rest of the DVDs. Alas, things quickly go back to normal. Sure, the sharp eyed will notice some changes/additions but they become scarcer in the newer episodes as if there is significantly less wasted material.

Something that even Mr. Magoo can’t miss is a certain addition to “Family Goy” – 250lbs of dynamite with a three-inch fuse anyone? Too bad it looks like a bad overlay from a 1970s H-B cartoon.

The commentaries
People have already noted that not all of the episodes have commentaries in this set, namely “Stew-Roids”, “Conrad”, “Quagmire’s Baby” and “Dog Gone”. Seth IS around for a significantly higher percentage though over the last set, 8 or 9 of the episodes although he does tend to limit his talking a bit, even doing two of the commentaries from the sound engineer’s booth. (The first one to avoid Patrick Meighan’s cold.)

“Road to The Multiverse” does have two different commentaries although does not make up for the lack of animatic commentaries. (See below)

Danny Smith tends to carry the weight of the commentaries and is quite fascinating. He mentions a proposal to do a scene of the opening theme to a very early 70′s show called Lidsville that I remember quite fondly about a kid (originally played by Butch Patrick of The Munsters) that falls into a magician’s hat into a world of living hats. The show was produced by Sid and Marty Krofft as a follow-up to their successful HR Pufnstuf show. Apparently the reference was too outre for even the writers of Family Guy to handle.

Another bit of trivia is that “Spies Reminiscent of Us” was originally to be “Road to ’85″ before “Multiverse” was given the distinction of being the season 8 Road episode.

Extras
Deleted Scenes: Usual bag, some you wonder why they were cut instead of something else, some there is no question.

My favorite: a stoned  Tricia Takanawa from “420″.
Notorious by it’s absence: The ’80s Bullies universe cut from “Multiverse”. Although to be fair, the commentary mentions that the footage they got back from Korea was severely flawed so that may be excusable.

“Road to the Multiverse” featurette: Not bad, primarily focuses on the Disney and Robot Chicken segments. Nice to get to see Greg Colton finally. Extremely puzzled as to why a certain feline/human fusion doll is digitally blocked in this.

Family Guy Karaoke: Done on the cheap, lifting the segments straight from the episodes with what look to be the same subtitles my DVD player puts out. Should have properly been called a “Sing-a-long” instead of karaoke.

They could have done a little throwback to the classic sing-a-long cartoons and made a cute little introduction here for the bouncing ball, but no. Still, for those that just want to line up a bunch of musical numbers and fire away, this works satisfactorily.

Sadly missed: Animatics and their commentaries. Frankly, I loved getting to peek at these very early drafts. It’s mentioned that the animatic for Shawshank Redemption alone was in the neighborhood of episode-length.

The Box Set Itself
Early buyers in the US and possibly elsewhere can get their hands on the “Ye Olde” edition while they last which includes a mini-script of “Road to the Multiverse”, a cute little keepsake of the final version of the episode with Seth’s printed signature on the cover and many character sketches inside. I assume later editions will dispense with the script although the rest of the DVD materials will remain.

Those that have access to Target Department stores will also receive a bonus DVD of the question & answer segment at Palyfest. (Which I have yet to watch.)

The DVDs are contained in the same narrow-format case as the last set instead of individual DVD cases. The inner and outer artwork doesn’t quite interact with each other as last year but still complement each other.

As previously mentioned, Family Guy Volume 8 was released yesterday. But it turns out the folks at TVShowsOnDVD.com have been receiving e-mails from readers that “an insert is advertising a new upcoming title from the show”.

Family Guy: Barely Legal in September!

In the Family Guy: Volume 8 DVD sets there is an ad for “Family Guy” and “American Dad” as well as the “The Cleveland Show: Season One. To the right of the advertisement…It reads in a light blue font: “Look for Barely Legal – New Family Guy DVD Available September” But there is no picture of the DVD itself.

No further information is available at this point as the release has yet to be announced by Fox Home Entertainment, however Producer Kara Vallow told us via twitter:

The variety show will be released on a special dvd along with the banned episode and some other stuff later [this] year.
DVD will include alex/Seth live show, animatic for abortion show, live read of abortion show

As of today, Volume 5 of American Dad is now available in the US.

The 3 disc set includes 14 uncensored episodes with commentary and special features containing deleted scenes, Power Hour Drinking Game and Bar Mitzvah Shuffle Fact-Up Trivia.

Volume 5 is on sale at Best Buy for $24.99

Today, June 15, sees the release of Family Guy Volume 8 in the US.

The 3 disc set features 15 uncensored episodes, deleted scenes, a Road To The Multiverse featurette and a 28 track Family Guy Karaoke.

In addition, Target have a special edition pack which includes a bonus disc highlighting the “Seth MacFarlane & Friends” panel discussion from PaleyFest 2010.

According to EzyDVD.com, Season 9 (the region 4 equivalent to the US) is to be released on the 4th of August. The price is set at AU$46.97 and will feature content identical to that of the region 1 volume 8 release.
